Assorted Bristlenose (Ancistrus)

Overview:
Bristlenose Plecos are small, hardy catfish valued for their algae-eating ability and unique appearance. Available in a variety of colors and patterns, they are peaceful bottom dwellers that make excellent additions to community aquariums.

Origin:
Native to South America, commonly found in fast-flowing rivers and streams.

Feeding:
Primarily herbivores, grazing on algae, algae wafers, blanched vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, spinach), and sinking pellets. Will also accept occasional protein-based foods.

Tank Mates:
Excellent with peaceful community fish such as tetras, corydoras, gouramis, and livebearers. Avoid keeping with aggressive or very large predatory species.

Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though males may become territorial with other males when space is limited.

Experience Level:
Great for beginner to intermediate aquarists — hardy, low-maintenance, and easy to care for.

  • pH: 6.5–7.5

  • Hardness: 2–20 dGH

  • Minimum Tank Size: 20+ gallons
