Overview:<\/strong>
The Red Jawfish<\/strong> is a striking burrowing fish<\/strong> known for its elongated body, vibrant red jawline, and large eyes<\/strong>. It spends most of its time hovering near its sand burrow<\/strong>, quickly retreating when threatened. This species is admired for its interesting behavior, mouth-brooding males, and beautiful coloration<\/strong>, making it a favorite among marine aquarists.<\/p>\n

Origin:<\/strong>
Native to the Western Atlantic<\/strong>, primarily in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico<\/strong>, inhabiting sandy slopes and rubble areas near reefs.<\/p>\n

Feeding:<\/strong>
Carnivorous \u2013 feeds on zooplankton, small crustaceans, and other tiny invertebrates<\/strong>. In captivity, it readily accepts frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality sinking pellets<\/strong>. Frequent small feedings are recommended.<\/p>\n

Tank Mates:<\/strong>
Peaceful and reef-safe<\/strong>, best housed with other non-aggressive fish<\/strong>. Avoid large or boisterous tankmates that may outcompete it for food or disturb its burrow.<\/p>\n

Low.<\/strong> Territorial around its own burrow but non-aggressive toward other fish.<\/p>\n

Experience Level:<\/strong>
Intermediate.<\/strong> Requires a deep sandy substrate<\/strong> (2\u20134 inches) for burrow construction and a secure lid<\/strong>, as it may jump when startled.<\/p>\n
