It is the <strong data-start=\"454\" data-end=\"483\">largest European pipefish<\/strong> and a relative of the seahorse, belonging to the family <em data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"554\">Syngnathidae<\/em>. Its colour varies from pale green to brown, often patterned with faint stripes or mottling that helps it blend perfectly into seagrass or kelp.
