Overview:<\/strong>
The Geophagus sp. \u201cAlto Sinu\u201d<\/strong> is a stunning and relatively rare eartheater species collected from Colombia\u2019s Sin\u00fa River basin<\/strong>. It is prized for its shimmering golden-beige body<\/strong>, subtle iridescent green and blue facial markings<\/strong>, and flowing fin extensions accented with red and orange tones<\/strong>. Like other eartheaters, it exhibits the captivating behavior of sifting sand through its gills<\/strong> in search of food, making it both beautiful and fascinating to watch.<\/p>\n

Origin:<\/strong>
Endemic to the Alto Sin\u00fa region in northern Colombia<\/strong>, where it inhabits slow-moving, sandy-bottom rivers<\/strong> with warm, clear water and scattered leaf litter.<\/p>\n

Feeding:<\/strong>
Omnivorous. In the aquarium, they thrive on sinking cichlid pellets<\/strong>, high-quality frozen foods<\/strong> (such as bloodworms, mysis shrimp, and brine shrimp), and occasional vegetable matter<\/strong> or spirulina-based foods. Fine sand substrate is essential to allow their natural sifting behavior.<\/p>\n

Tank Mates:<\/strong>
Peaceful for a cichlid, making them suitable for other Geophagus species, peaceful South American cichlids, larger tetras, Corydoras, plecos<\/strong>, and other non-aggressive tank mates. Avoid keeping with aggressive or highly territorial species.<\/p>\n
